Hi
I am new to this forum and in great need of some help.

I have two cats Dora who is 3 yrs young and a Tortashell and is Obese and Molly whom is just over 1yr and normal weight.

Dora does not venture out of the garden. Molly goes every where. Both cats have been neutered.

Dora we rescued from the RSPCA from our local vets about 1 1/2yrs ago. Molly we have had from a kitten.

I have complained about Dora's weight everytime I have been to the vets. My eldest daughter thinks she has swollowed a cat :eyebrows:

I often have to have Dora's nails clipped due to her not ventureing out and had to take her last week. The vet nurse was really taken back about her weight and instantly asked me what I fed her. She said she must be getting food from somewhere. I wanna know where!! (the hamster has not been eaten so he is not the extra food) :nono:
She has no tit bits or treats. I feed her on the biscuits from the vets (Royal Cain) especially for neutered females and weight. They don't believe me.
I have now bought her a perscription diet. OM management its called. 95mg a day she has mixed into the othe biscuits. I am lucky if she eats 45mg a day.

If I over fed Dora like the vets seem, to think why is my other cat not fat :dunno:
Re - Excerise. I throw balls in the garden, but all she does in neck excerise. She is so so lazy!

Dora weights wait for it 6.5kg ((HUGE))

I am at my wits end as I don't think its what she eats. Can any one help.

Welcome to Fat Cat, I'm glad that you joined us here. :)

Have a talk with your vet & see if he/she can run some tests to see if Dora has a slow metabolism.

I remember seeing a show on Animal Planet a while back that talked about obese pets. 1 couple had a very obese cat & did everything they could to help get it's weight down with no luck. Turned out after going to a few vets they found out she had a slow metabolism & that was why she wasn't losing weight quickly.

Did you know there was no such thing as a slow detabolic rate. This is what I was told by a vet!

No I never heard of that, then if that is the truth I have to wonder why pets such as a described above don't lose weight when the owners do everything they can to help get their weight down. :dunno:
