MARTHA is a 5 year old (estimate) female gray tabby with sass. She was originally rescued from Hurricane Katrina and took a long car ride up to Washington state with the rescue organization that took her in. She had kittens who all grew up and found forever homes, and then it was her turn. She got adopted once, but the dogs in the household terrorized her so she got returned. She was stressed and would lash out at people who tried to pet her (scratching, biting, hissing, growling...the works). Mostly because people just approached her too quickly, or tried to mess with her paws or stomach. Took me about 4 months to get her to headbutt my hand for love and purr. I knew I was sold and just got myself a cat after that...that was Aug 2006. Three years together and still going strong. :)

JETHRO is a 5 year old (estimate) male brown tabby w/white. His history is unknown because when I met him, he was very skittish outdoor stray (who I thought was a feral at first. That's how unapproachable he was!). It took a couple months before he would eat while I watched behind a closed sliding door. A couple months later, I was able to pet him and he would sleep on a kitty bed on the patio. 5 months after I first saw him, I actually caught him and brought him indoors. It's been a year since I first saw him....8 months since he's come indoors. He does pretty well. Still very skittish, but get a little more confidence every day. Probably will never be as confident as Martha, but as long as he's a happy cat, that's all that matters to me.
