As you can tell, I really do! They're so adorable that you just want to hug them forever. But I've seen posts from people upset that they're fat. If the cat is happy, isn't that enough?

:nono: I do not like any fur kids in my care to be fat. I have a hard enough time being over weight myself. There are so many health issues that are caused by obesity in cats, and once they are over weight is is very hard to get the pounds off. Obesity is a human problem, it is heartbreaking to see it in animals, and compleatly unnessisary.

While I do think overweight cats are cute. I do fear for their health if they are very obese. Their bodies were just not equipped to have a huge amount of weight on them.

I would much prefer my cats to be the ideal weight or maybe a little bit over, to being really obese. I want my fur babies with us for a long time to come.

Well I have to say no because I think our cats enjoy wandering around looking at this and sniffing at that and if they find to someting to eat well and good if not its onto the next thing to check out.
I have to admit my cats are outside so its probably different for indoor puddies. cheers

One of my cats is a big boy around 24lb last time he was on the scales, but he is a happy cat, goes outside, jumps on the fence to get on the shed.lives a normal cats life, just he loves his food.

I don't think fat cats are cute. It's too unhealthy. I just lost my Robby in September because he was obese. He was 10 years old and weighed 20 pounds.

I think if a cat is obese its naturally enough, the owners faultl. So we have the responsibility as to whether we feed them or not. Cats ask for food all the time, thats kinda what they do, look for food but they don't always need it. So its very much up to the owner,we know its not healthy for them,so we have to do whats right for them.
cheers everybody

You're right, it is the owners fault. But when you have 6 cats it's hard to controll how much each cat eats.

Wow,you have six cats of course its hard to control what each one eats individually. You,re doing a good job just looking after them so more power to you.

Thanks, Tenpa. My cats were all born feral in the woods behind my house and I was able to tame them as kittens and bring them inside. I started out with 8 of them but now I'm down to 5 cats. I love each and everyone of them so much.

I have three cats and all of them are a bit on the heavy side...not obese or anything just a little chunkey. They are all free fed which I know I shouldnt do but they scream and I mean scream at me if there is no food in the bowel!!!

I believe just like in humans obesity can be caused by overeating as well as genetics.

I feel that the majority of fat cats in the world are due to ignorant owners feeding their cats too many treats, too much at meal times and also feeding a crummy quality of food.

However, my mom's cat is pretty overweight despite being fed a portioned size amount of a high quality cat food (blue spa and wellness). He is an indoor cat and gets excersise by running the length of our screened in porch, but despite the change in diet he hasn't lost too much weight making me think it might be genetic.

does anyone agree with this?

Sounds like in your mom's cats case it very well could be genetic. Or the cat could have a slow metabolism & can't lose weight as quickly as other cats may be able to despite the excercise & good food.
