I have a 2 year old cat that has the weirdest hair. She has short hair but it seems like she has an under coat-Her hair is really thick. She sheds like CRAZY!!! She doesn’t gets mats but her shedding is unreal.

Lets face it-Cats shed, but not like this one. She can barely touch your pant leg-Just walking past you and you will have clumps of hair. I brush her daily and I have even begun giving her baths (Water baths-Not the waterless ones…Actually filling the sink and sticking her in). Still she sheds like crazy.

My vet recommended shaving her. He said that her hair might not grow back AS thick and that it might help the shedding but I have never heard of shaving a cat and she would look SO goofy!

Wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem and what they did or any recommendations!

Thanks!

Have you tried the "shed ender"? It's a pretty good brush that gets the under coat easily. I have 1 for my cats & it works pretty good.

I have a long haired cat & he tends to shed alot, we thought about taking him to a groomer & seeing what they can do about him shedding so much. LOL...my guy was talking about shaving him, but that's a no go.

Yep, a shed ender is what we use. No matter how much I brush she sheds the same!

Hmmm, do you have any groomers in your area where you could maybe call them to see what their thoughts on the excessive shedding is?

Unless you go to a PetSmart or PetCo (if you have them in your area) & look at the other grooming brushes etc., maybe even ask the groomer that is there.

I really can't tell you about the excessive shedding, it seems like you're doing all the right things, maybe she's just a shedder?? :dunno:
