View Full Version : Opinions Wanted!
I am a very opinionated individual…Who also loves hearing others opinions and thoughts. I am also a dog lover-Down to the drool & Barking. I have a serious passion for any breed of dog that is societies “garbage” the “outcasts” are my love! Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Mastiffs, German Shepards win my heart.
So many people have many different beliefs about these breeds. I am curious to hear others thoughts and/or opinions on these “bully” breeds, especially Pit Bulls.
What do you guys think a Pit Bull is (Weight, build, characteristics etc.)? What have you heard and/or believe?
Please, no one hold back true feelings in fear of hurting my feelings…I am a tough gal and I can promise you-I have heard far worse! ;) I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t want to know. I want truth. LOL

To be honest I would never have a Pit Bull in my house. I've heard so much bad about them over the years attacking children, people out of the blue, it honestly scares me to have a pit.
Our neighbor babysat a female pit for a month while his friend went on vacation. We went over to see her & to be perfectly honest I was a little scared, she was sweet, came up & wanted some loving, I did pet her, but didn't feel comfortable like I would be with other breeds of dogs.
Now my boyfriend had a pit when he lived in California, his dog was a big ole boy, solid, lots of muscle. I would never go near that dog. He told me that his dog was the biggest baby around with the people he trusted. When someone would come in to his space/home is when he would protect it & the people at all cost. That's what I didn't like about him, the "all cost" protection. Made me feel like if we had that dog now, we couldn't have the cats, plus anybody over without having to watch him constantly.

I agree with Amy. My 2 pits are sweethearts. They've been socialized so they love people. All the kids on the block come visit them. U only hear the bad things, which is y people judge them harshly.
Oh & if u ask me, small dogs r more prone 2 bite & they r more aggressive. Pits r very smart, if Lassie was a pit, Timmy wouldn't have been down the well in the 1st. place.

German Shepherds are my favorite. I've wanted one for forever, but I just don't have the money, time, nor the space to properly care for one right now. Hopefully that will change sometime in the near future, though :)
As for Pit Bulls (or any other "misunderstood" breed, for that matter), my only issues are bad lines and stupid people who have them and shouldn't. A Pit with the right owner is an amazing dog. They're just not a dog for someone who has no idea what they're doing. They're not a dog for someone who just wants a dog only to put it in the backyard. They're not a dog for someone who wants a "mean looking dog." And they're definitely not a dog for someone who won't spend lots of time socializing and training.
This is a hot subject for me, so sorry for my rant. I'm done, for now :o
