I have an outdoor cat that is a great mouser. she spends most of her time catching moles and mice in the grass, but sometimes she goes to the neighbors and catches them then she runs home with it to eat it instead of just eating it where she caught it.

Maybe she just likes getting take out and eating it at home in a familar setting. People do that all the time, we just don't connect cats and mice with us and McDonalds. But it is weird to think about.

Sounds like she prefers to hunt anywhere but she likes to bring her prey back to what she considers her territory to eat, some cats are strange like that. My cats do the same thing, it’s a bit disgusting but as long as they finish the job it’s all good.

I have a cat like that. we live across from a pond, but it is quite a bit of distance from our house to get down there, people will fish and sometimes toss fish in the grass instead of back in the water:confused: my cat will go down their and find a fish and she carries it all the way back home to eat it.

I think when they catch something they always bring them back to their turf. this was gross but once my cat brought home a rabbit but I don't think he killed it.I felt so bad 'cos I like rabbits but what can you do? They just do what they're supposed to do.

I haven't had to see that yet with my cats bringing home things they've caught. I keep them inside most of the time. I have however had to deal with the occasional dead bug because they caught it & played with it until they killed it.
I don't know how I would react if EJ or Lucy caught another animal, killed it & brought it home for us. :surprised:

mine tortures the poor flies in the house when she finds them. You can some times hear her smacking....lol!!

My husband's first cat Masquerade would eat most of his kills, then bring the heads back home for Daddy. His 2nd cat, Luna, would catch something and bring it into the house (through a basement door which we could never satisfactorily secure) to play with it before killing it. I finally made a rule that if I caught her with a rodent or (more commonly) a lizard which was injured beyond recovery, she could play with it until it was dead. Fortunately, mice tend to squeak when cats have them, and I was able to rescue most of her prizes (generally followed by glaring cat eyes as I released her prey away from the house). I think she figured out my trick, though, because eventually I started noticing dead toys when I came home rather than hearing live ones in the middle of the night

LOL...oh yuck Fauna...I think I would freak out if EJ or Lucy brought home a dead mouse for me to see.
Our old neighbors cats killed a pigeon & brought it home to their back porch for them. I walked up & saw it, about gagged & walked back home without chatting to them until much later when it was cleaned up!
LMAO...persian my EJ is my "fly slayer", he's really good at smacking them & then "gulp" he eats them BEFORE I can clean it away! :boggled::catmilk:

Unless you want your cat hit by a car, diseased with FIV,no proven vaccine exits, ( exactly like human HIV virus ) Or/and feline luk (which you can vaccinate) or killed by some hoodlum, please make her an indoor cat. most outdoor cats die before age 4, few see age 10. My mom had a couple of lucky indoor/outdoor cats live to see 13, (one is now an indoor only cat), but that was nearly 5 hours out of the city in farming county. Also she lost multiple cats in other areas, one was trapped by a mean neighbor and sold to a lab, another was hit by a car. I've personally seen a dead cat by the side of the road, with a bloody head, :(:(
Your cat doesn't need to hunt and kill, she is a domesticated animal. Its disturbing and violent and though she likes it, it isn't good for the environments wildlife population or her health, worms and fleas can be transmitted to her. A good cat toy is Da bird, it will help her predatory instincts.:)
