I was wondering ha anyone ever trained a cat to a leash? If so how can you do this? Is it really difficult?

I have never done this but I know 2 people whose cats won't go out unless they have a leash on ! :) - Both these cats were trained when they were kittens and were not allowed to go out without the leash.....

yes you are right nenella
my wife has done that when she got her chinchilla at 8 weeks of age it took her a little while to get he cat to walk on the leash
some 7 years later the cat does not go outside without his leash on.
now and again my wife will take her cat for a walk around the block

No, I've never tried to train my cats on a leash. I had a teacher a long time ago that had trained her cat to walk on a leash, she said it took a bit though.

Sometimes I would like to put my 2 on a leash & take them for a walk. I think it would be good exercise for them & it would also be a way to keep them safe.

I wish I could do that with my cat, but she's too diva-ish to go for walks. If she wants to walk she does it on her own time, LOL. I couldn't imagine putting her on a leash. She'd probably attack my legs. :p

:whoo::D...well, that's just perfectly 'cat like' :D !!!!
the Only way to do is to train them from 'babies' !!! otherwise a 'normal' not trained cat will often do or not do ...what its told !

I personally have found that sterilised males are more obediant than females which are more prone to doing what they want,... when they want....
just my experience!:dunno:

Sounds like my male cat EJ, he's laid back & a real sweet heart. While my female Lucy is a straight up DIVA & has some major cattitude! :D

Have you tried coaxing her with a few treats while she's walking a bit on the leash Persian hun?

OR

You could give her a couple treats after she walks for a bit on the leash. She may realize that walking on the leash will be a nice way to get treats & she just might walk a bit more to get a treat or 2.

LMAO...I have to admit that would be something to see if you could get a video of her on the leash & show us hun. I would love to see Brownie just sitting there like, "get this thing off me"! :catlol::boxing:

I've done it, Both my cats are leash/harness trained and went out, they also go in the cat carrier without fuss. The oldest is 3! Vet visits are a breeze when it comes to getting them in.:)

My advise is, though, DON"T it only makes them wilder, they'll dart outside unleshed and you cannot walk with a cat, outside like with a dog, without issues because a cat MUST go where it wants to! In this Society that will get you in trouble! I almost got Arrested for trespassing once..:scared:
