A cat's eye orients itself to light and dark. It acts like a camera. In bright sunshine the pupils contract, at dusk they expand and catch even the tiniest glimpse of light. In this way your cat sees about six times better than you do .

wow, thats amazing! I guess that will explain how it is that my outdoor cat can catch rodents just as well in the dark as she can during the day time. I think she is a non stop hunter, she is always catching herself something:)

That's really cool! I didn't know that. It makes sense though because while humans see in color, it's been scientifically proven that cats can only see in the dark due to the rods and cones in the eye.

I never knew that! thats very interesting. that explains a lot as to why cats see so well. It has always amazed me just how sharp their eye site is. now if only we humans could see that well!!
