We have a tortoiseshell cat Lucy & she is so pretty. I call her my halloween cat, she's black, orange red & light orange all over. It's very cool because her coloring isn't in any particular pattern, she's just splashy all over with her pretty colors.

As she has got older more cream and orange-brown has come out in her fur. She has little orange stipes on her legs though.

Have you noticed with Brownie that she likes to have her way & if she doesn't get her way, she pouts??
I see that alot with Lucy, she's got some major cattitude! :D She's a bed hog, she will push (or try to) us off the bed. She even thinks everytime I go into the kitchen it's treat time. She knows I get the treats for my babies in there so whenever I'm in the kitchen she's always over there with me looking all cute trying to get treats.
A friend of mine that has a tortie says her female is the same type of way, she has some major cattitude! I was wondering if torties are like that in general.

If mine does not get her way she will go and hide for a while and then when she comes out she's like 'so what I didn't need it'.....lol. She is a character. when she wants something she lets us know immediately and if we ignore her it's like she turns her nose up to us. So yeah she has a bit of 'cattitude'...lol

Well I'm thinking the torties are bascially your "halloween" cats where they are mostly black & orange in color. Also Tortie's are always females. If there is the occasional male, he is sterile. So it's not a specific full blooded breed of cat, I think it's more of the coloring of the cat that makes it a tortie.
Calico's can range in different colors, but I think Calico's are mostly light colored cats.
She sounds so pretty. I love her name too. lol

My understanding is that Tortoiseshells are usually black with orange/red specks. Kind of like a brindle coloration.
Calicos are usually white with patches of orange/red instead of it all being blended together like a Tortoiseshell.
Tortoiseshells can have white too, but it's usually a small amount on the paws or chest. Not a large amount like Calicos have.

In addition to Calicoes and Tortoise shell they're Torbies or Patched Tabbys, they are also always girls.
They're a tabby of any color with splashes of red, black and cream.
Highly desirable is a blaze down the nose.
Some cat shows have a category for "Party Colored Cats"
I like to call them Party Girls all dressed up with no where to go.
Samantha my late Maine Coon Cat was a Blue Patched Tabby and she had a red blaze down her face, she was a very elegant and beautiful cat and of course she Knew it.
