Toys are a great way to keep your cat entertained, but with so many on the market, how do you know which to pick? Here are five great choices.

Feather Toys
Feather toys keep cats busy and require owner participation. There are a variety of these popular feather teasers and wands available at pet supply stores and online. Just be sure to put them away when you are done, so the cat will not eat the feathers, says Charles Koenig, DVM, of the Limerick Veterinary Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Balls
The ball is an old classic that works wonders for cats. Balls of any type are great for play. Bouncy rubber balls, plastic balls and ping pong balls are just a few that your cat will love to bat around.

Makeshift Toys
Some fantastic sources of entertainment may already be in your house. Just plain old paper bags [without handles] and boxes give cats plenty of fun, Koenig says.

Tunnels and Climbers
These toys are exercise-oriented and encourage cats to run and play. Perfect for cats that need to lose a little weight.

Receptacle Toys
These come in all shapes and sizes, Koenig says. Some hold catnip and others hold food. If you're concerned about your cats weight, making it work for its food is a great solution. A toy designed to slowly release dry food as your cat plays will help your cat get some exercise while having fun.

I have the rubber balls with bells in them, some stuffed toys that have slight traces of cat nip in them & the feather toys that I get to interact with them.

Do you all know the toys that both Lucy & EJ love the best are the rings off gallon milk jugs? They go crazy over them, EJ loves tossing & kicking them around the house & Lucy loves jumping on them & tossing them up.

That's funny! :) My cat loves my hair bows. Sometimes I'll find them under the table and behind the couch because I know she's been back there, lol. The smallest things like that amaze her. The same goes with dental floss. If I tear a little piece and run it over her back she goes crazy for it! She chews it and everything. LOL

Brownie likes wadded up paper balls (she will come running from the other room when she hears paper being wadded up), and my kids' socks and gloves. She will entertain herself for hours with them...lol.

I have had prior cats who loved lightweight things: balls, rolled up paper, thread spools.
He would bat at them and amuse himself for hours.
My current guy is very playful and young for his advancing years, but only want to play with people, mostly with those fishing pole contraptions with the toy dangling at the end of a string.

I have never had a cat that fetches, but had to run all over collecting balls off the floor to start throwing them again.

I never realized how much cats like tummy rubs until this one.
Now, he allows me to trim his nails because these are his tummy rub times.

I found a toy that we want to buy for him, but we want to order it from our local pet shop to give him the business. These are hard economic times and our local store has been very helpful to us.

It's called Fling ama String

You all probably have heard about it by now.

My cats enjoy watching my guinea pigs, haha. They watch them like humans watch TV.

I guess I should not have posted the website of the fling ama string, but you can see cats playing with it on Utube.
I think the battery runs out quickly.

There was a toy that was immensely popular called Kitty Tease. The guy who makes it is doing so no longer. I have lots of string from a rope types of toys, but he likes the Kitty Tease the very best. When I googled it, lots of people seem to be complaining that they cannot get it.

All it is is a fiberglass fishing rod a bit over a yard long with a string and small denim strip at the end. He prefers this to all the rest. I was looking for a kid's fishing rod, and found something called the Coleman Fish Pen, which is a retractable fishing pole, fitting into a device that looks like a pen. They are on overstock all over the net. I guess people did not like them for fishing so much, but they might have the makings of a great cat toy.

Anything to stimulate those little brains.

I added some sort of Kitty Green things to my cat's daily diet and he seems to be a bit more active than usual. Maybe there is some vitamin that he does not get enough of in his food.

I also bought a container of chicken livers and put two or three in several containers and froze them. I will slowly fry a package once a week. He loves them.

No it was OK to post the link goldengrain hun. We have it set up that members have to reach 15 posts in order to post pictures or links. We've had some trouble with spammers in the past that made us have to do that for the time being. You could PM me the link & I can put it up for you if you would like. :)

LOL...KittyQueen, now see I would have thought the cats would want to eat the guinea pigs. I bet that's pretty cute to see them watching the little guys running around. :catlol:

Oh.
Thank you. I understand. I really dislike marketers encroaching on friendly forums, too. I was on one in which the moderator said he/she must screen the marketers first and was only doing that to get some sort of kickback on sales to the people on the forum.
I appreciate your diligence.

Haha, one of my cats thinks she's a guinea pig, she eats the hay, the food and sleeps in there almost every night. With my other cat, she'd rather watch them. They've gotten used to being watched.:p

I used to have a cat, Simon, that loved to fetch small rounds of sherpa material.
