Ear mites are common in both cats and dogs. If left untreated they can result in hearing loss of your pet. Warning signs of ear mites are excessive or persistent scratching, head shaking, restless behavior, brown tar like substance in the ears, a foul odor emanating from the ears and the ears will be painful to the touch. If your cat or dog is showing signs then you can get a medicated flush like Oxyfresh ear cleaner or Otirinse. You should never leave ear mites untreated

Once it gets to the point of the foul odor or painful ear a vet should be consulted as there cane already be damage or a secondary infection by that time.

At the first sign of severe scratching unless, you are a vet or assistant you should get it looked at. You will be able to see if it is dirt or mites with a q-tip or cotton ball. Ear mites look like a black tar like substance.
