Do you recycle?

If so, what are some of the things that you recycle?

Is it voluntary or a mandatory thing to recycle where you live?

I try to recycle as much as I can, but no, it's not mandatory.

We are supposed to and it probably should be required everywhere.
The plants that do the reprocessing are expensive, though,
and the really good ones require less and less of the homeowner
sorting his refuse ahead of time.
I get a bit lazy sometimes but my husband usually catches me,
and he's right.

We used to have to separate the glossy magazine paper
from newsprint. No more. The town made a contract with
a plant that has more up to date equipment.
We also used to have to separate glass of different colors.

Oh, our town doesn't have a recycling plant. In fact, we don't even have our own dump, but it'd be really inconvenient for us to recycle. If there wasn't a garbageman, it'd be pretty inconvenient to throw stuff out, as well.
So, no, I don't recycle.

A friend visited his friend in a condo building in Seattle(WA). They had separate shoots into which to throw recycled refuse. He had a candy wrapper and sent it down the wrong shoot. A short time later someone knocked on the condo door and 'caught' him. They had cameras and tape and people who watch.

Very serious folks, these Seattlites! :surprised: :biglaugh:

Yup. It's hard to think that they are watching all the time. Probably they took a long time to train everyone in the building, and once that was done the trash came out clean all the time. Someone must have spotted the wrapper after it was dropped and they replayed the tape for the day. I don't know.

I heard of a building (apartment or condo)in which almost every door had a cat door underneath. The residents had collars on their cats which had some sort of little gadget, almost a sticker, on the collar which was synched to their apartment and the cat could thereby enter any room regardless of the status of the door. People on the same floor would sometimes exchange spare 'stickers' so their cats could visit each other in their various apartments.

The guy who had owned the building was a bit eccentric and loved cats.
