My male cat EJ, seems to be very crazy over plastic & things that sound plastic.

He will check the tops of bags of chips, bread, cereal bags way down if I don't watch him. He will do that when I'm putting groceries away & have the bags on the floor waiting to be put away.

If I grab a snack & whatever I have has a plastic wrapper, if he hears it he comes running & is all over whatever I'm eating just to get to the plastic.

What do you all think this could be? Is it good for him to ingest plastic as he's chewing?

I do take the bags away from him, but sometimes I don't notice it until he's got a nice hole in the top of a bag he's chewing.

Cats like plastic because they like the sound it makes when they touch it.
I also heard something about the chemical composition of plastic being similar to catnip.

I've heard about some cats who get serious illnesses from eating plastic bags,so the best thing to do would be to keep plastic away from him, and possibly shut him upstairs or in the bathroom when you're putting groceries away.

My cat does the same thing with those straw wrappers from juice boxes. But those are easy because you can just throw them away.

Thank you Firefox for that information. I have taken to putting the bags with the bread, chips in them up so that EJ can't get to them. He gets all harassed, but I don't want him getting sick if he does eat too much.

One of my cats likes nibbling plastic but only just before it is his mealtime. Perhaps it is like chewing gum for us - it is tiding him over for just a few minutes.
