Hi everybody I'm new here and I really love cays, I have a male cat called Bob and young female called Siska. now Siska is pregnant and I was wondering what I should do when she gives birth specifically should I keep Bob away from the kittens? Will he be jealous or possibly do them harm? Any advice is welcome please feel free to help .......cheers tenpa

Welcome to Fat Cat tenpa, I'm glad that you joined us here. :)
You should keep the male cat away from the babies when they are born as he could harm them. Give Bob a little bit more attention as Siska will be pre-occupied with the babies, you will probably want to spend a bit more time with the babies as well. Make sure Bob isn't feeling left out, give him a bit more love & attention after the babies are born.
Are you thinking of keeping the babies after they are born?

Hi Sapphire and thankyou for the welcome. The facy of the matter is that bob was found under a dumpster and my daughter brought him home and i have never got around to having him spayed (mea culpa). Siska just turned up at my home in late july and I don't know for sure, but I think she was dumped by some neighbours who moved away. She's so pretty i couldn't not keep her.Obviously, bob let her stay 'cos he knew she was about to come in season or already was...what do i know? I do know its the first time for her I can tell that much, she's probably about 6 months old. I won't be able to keep the litter but I will do my best to find homes for them.I really like cats they are just so cool..you know? But then again I like most animals even the human kind..lol .......cheers tenpa

Yeah I love cats to tenpa. I found my male cat on my back porch 1 very cold Dec. evening, he was a stray. I brought him in the house & he's been my baby ever since. My female cat we adopted her from an animal shelter, she'd been there for a good 4+ months.
If you have any nice animal shelters, you could give the babies to them, kittens get adopted out quicker than older cats, so I be the babies would go to a good home. :)
If you can, get Bob spayed soon, so you don't have another litter of kittens. Cats do like to breed alot.

Hi sapphi I'm going to do the resposible thing and get bob spayed and siska done too but not till after the birth of course. It will be easier to do them both at once and I won't have to worry about them so much. I will start looking for homes for the kitties as soon as they're born I know it will be hard to find homes but the alternative is the cat protection society who do a great job perhaps they might find some homes for the little cuties.Anyway I'll let you know as things progress......

Sounds like you have a good plan going tenpa!
Yes please keep us posted on how siska is progressing & how many little cutties she has too. :)
I agree with Sapphire, tenpa. Keep Bob away from the female cat and her babies, but make sure you show him lots of attention. Cats get jealous too, ya know. I'd keep them separate for the first couple of days at least. Hopefully you get them both fixed if ya don't want anymore kittens. :p Keep us updated!

Hi fellow feline fanciers, well I'm still waiting like an expectant father on little siska to produce the goods. She's keeping well and eating like a horse but its all going to the babes she's not putting any weight on at all but looks very healthy. I feel so sorry for her 'cos she's so young and pretty and she's in for all this hassle....oh well I hope I don't sound too loopy but you know how we love our pets.Bob doing ok I give him plenty affection too so its steady as she goes at my place.....I'll be in touch .,.....tenpa

Well congratulations are in order I'm a father again! Last Sunday night siska delivered 5 little cuties. About 10.00pm she came into my room and went into the little hideway she had found for herself,( I'm a bit of a hoarder and there's stuff everywhere) anyway at 11.00pm I had a little look at her and she gave me one of those **** off growls,I supposed she was in labor and took no offence and I went and lay on my bed.At exactly 12.08 am I heard the first little cry of the newborn followed by siska's comforting purr it happened again 4 more times. You wouldn't believe this tiny little cat could have 5 kits in her I had thought 3 at most. there's 4 mainly black ones and 1 B/w one that has funny ears in that around the top edge of its ears its split like it would have 4 ears I wish I had the facilities and the knowledge to post some pictures but I'm not equipped to do that right now..I'm sorry ....Anyway I'll get back to you with further updates..its fun to share the news with you all..........

I sure wish you could take & post pictures as well. If you do get to take pictures, the best place to host the pictures is Photobucket.com. You can open up a free account there & it's very easy to upload the pictures from your computer.
