Cats Bonding With Their Owners

There are a lot of experts out there who say that cats are strictly independent animals. These very same experts state that cats have chosen to associate with humans due to their strategy of survival. Although many argue with this statement, there are many who agree as well – although those that agree are normally those in the percentile who don’t agree with cats.

Anyone who has owned a cat will tell you that cats are great at bonding with people, although they are very particular. Normally, a cat will choose someone in the home that he bonds with. You’ll know when a cat wants to bond with you, as he will hop on your lap seeking attention or snuggle up to you at night when you are sleeping. Purring is a strong sign of affections, especially with cats that are looking to bond.

Although many experts have tried to figure it out, no one really knows why cats choose a particular person whom they will bond with. It could be the individual’s manners, voice, or simply how that person treats the cat. Perhaps it may be the individual is really gentle, or maybe a little more forceful – bringing the best out in the cat.

There are a lot of ways that researchers have tried to take this subject, one of which being psychic. Some say that cats bond with someone due to a “psychic aura” that is compatible with both the person and the cat. If a cat feels that someone is giving them a bad vibe, they will simply ignore that person. Although this can be true to a sense for some, a majority of those who own cats will tell you that this couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Even though there are a lot of theories and speculation out there, no one really knows why cats bond with humans. There’s little to no proof available as well, other than cats and their natural instinct for physical survival. Those who own cats know that cats crave attention, simply to make them feel needed. They love to be pampered by their owners, and will shower you with attention and affection if you just give them the chance.

Those who are new to owning cats may find bonding to be very different. Cats are different from other animals, including dogs, in the sense that they bond different. Different breeds of cats will bond different with their owners, although most prefer affection and attention. The more time you spend around your cat, the more he will bond with you. Over the years, you’ll find that the bond you create with your pet has grown very strong – and simply cannot be broken.

My grand mother got a cat and the cat hated her but bonded with my grand dad and he was a dog person not a cat person. Was really strange.

All of my cats have bonded with me, including my current cat which was the hardest one. She is very independent and will cuddle once in awhile but most of the time she prefers her space. She has always been a good behaved cat though and we all love her very much.

Yeah, cats are funny like that, but it's neat too. It makes them much more interesting than dogs. All of my cats have bonded with me almost immediately, but I've always chalked that up to the fact that I'm the one who feeds them. ;) I know that's not true though because when I lived with roomates and was not able to feed them if I was working or something, it didn't matter. They still curled up with me and purred at night. :)

our cats all seem to take to my 4 year old daughter, I think maybe part of that is because she spends so much time with them playing with them and snuggling them, my boys are in school so she is the only one home during the day so she spends a lot of time playing with them.

Both my cats love me Bindi is 3 and Leopalorn 2. They always play with DA bird and bags and snuggle up to me. I love them dearly but I'm going to leave them with my parents when I move into a group home n a few years. ( I have mild Autism) so they don't possibly get de clawed, abused (some people in those places have issues), or thrown out because of Allergies.

My cat Tibbi...he's paticular like i'll sit on the couch for a few hours watching tv, reading ya know just sitting there and he'll hang out on the back of the couch sleeping but as soon as i get up to get on the computer or to do anything he's right under my feet or in my lap (if on the computer) then he wants all the attention in the world.

In the late 80's I worked as shop manage for an Interior Design firm, the employer Barbara was and is a great animal lover especially cats and there was always at least 1 offices cat.
Our office park wasn't the kinda place a cat could just wonder into so somebody probably dumped Meme there and the girls in the office rescued her.
Now I got on with the office cats well enough, most of the apartment where I lived didn't allow pets so the office cats were surrogate pets for me.
Meme didn't get along with Riley the Alpha male office cat, he was old and grumpy and was mean to her.
One day when most of the designer were out of town on a road trip I'm talking to Lisa the office manage and Meme is just going nut rubbing against my sneaker and I started to pay more attentions.
Since she didn't get along with Riley and at that time Barbara didn't have a cat at home she took her home, I was kinda bummed but knew I'd still see her a lot as Barbara spent a lot of time on the road.
Well less then a week later she brought Meme back, Meme was unhappy and let her know about it.
She was ecstatic to she me.
Shortly after that Meme escaped into the warehouse and went into the loft above the office, she wouldn't come out for anyone but me, eventually she started coming down to the shop at the other end of the warehouse and would spend her days around my desk.
Eventually I took her home when we closed the office for the holiday and that where she spent the remainder of her life.
I could have asked for a better more loving friend, she would sit in my lap od beside me as I watched TV and when I wanted to get up she would jump down, then when I came back it would be back to more lap time.
I have no clue why she picked me, all the girls in the office were big time cat lovers and were kind to her.
But she saw something in me and picked me to be her human and I was glad she did.
I was never sure of her actual age and our time together seems brief, but she turned me into a cat lover and I'll always love her and the time we spent together is a precious memory.
