Do you think vets charge a fair price for the job they do?

Do you trust everything your vet says, or do you take your pet somewhere else for a second opinion?

My vet isn't too pricey (thank goodness) so I don't mind going there. I went to a vet once who wanted to order all sorts of crazy tests because he thought my cat had some insane disease when all she had was a urinary tract infection. After I heard what he wanted to do to her I took her somewhere else where they wanted to do a few simple tests and that's where she's been going ever since.
I feel like I have to play "mom" in a way because I want to take her to someone who has the best interest for her and isn't just trying to make money off me.

Yeah I agree, that's the same way I'm with EJ & Lucy. When I was looking for a vet for EJ before we got Lucy, I called the 1's around the house & 2 out of the 3 were crazy expensive. All I was looking for, for him was a quick check up & his shots, nothing extra.

We took him to the 1 that was cheaper & the vet seemed to understand where I was coming from & wanting & we've been going there ever since.

I trust vets with Health care, shots/ect.

not food, most food vets sell /promote is of very low grade, its not their fault its the people who train them in, most vets get kickbacks and free stuff if they promote S/D IAMS,ect. Its all crap in the end though. I think an indoor cat who ate a Raw diet or Innova EVO, Instincts, wellness grain free, natures logic, but never saw a vet after fixing and kitten shots would outlive an indoor cat who ate vet food or friskies,Iams, purina and saw a vet for every little thing.

I trust SOME vets.

The one I had back in WA was wonderful. She would admit if she couldn't figure something out, and she would talk to the other vets in the clinic for their opinion if she needed it.

She never tried to push anything unnecessary. Never had to go elsewhere for a second opinion. Only time I ever used a different vet was only because my vet wasn't available every day, so if I needed vet care on a day she wasn't available, I had to have a ''back up'' vet.

I am very careful about picking a vet. I have yet to pick one here in San Antonio but I am hoping to find a great one that is both understanding/gentle and not going to make me go broke over simple procedures.

It is really hard to find the vets who are still in the business for the reason they went into it. For the well-being of the pets, for doing everything they can to help the animals.

I've been told that some vets will actually suggest euthanization easily, even in situations that it shouldn't be a top option. Those bug me, but luckily I haven't encountered one myself.
