Do you all have any other pets?
Please share with us if you anymore "fur babies". :)
Nope, my cat is it! She is messy enough for a few animals. :p

I have a black dog, 3/4 lab and 1/4 rottwieller, who thinks he's a kitty! Shadoe is 11 years old and loves to cuddle on our laps (he's 69 lbs), play in the snow, and just play all the time, but is very protective of anyone trying to hurt someone he loves. He is also protective of his kittie friends!

I had a betta fish too, he was a really pretty multi colored 1. I think he lasted about a year before he died.
LOL...my fiance wants a bird. Yeah I can see it now, we have 3 bird stalking cats. We come home from work, the bird cage is on the floor opened & the bird is NOWHERE to be found, just some of the feathers hanging out of their mouths. :scared1::laught16:
I up unto 2 months ago I had a chihuahua (handicap she never barked or snapped at anyone) I started out fostering her when she was well enough to go up for adoption I couldn't let her go. She was in my care becasue a big dog broke her jaw. I had her for 6 yrs. She was 4 yrs old when she came to me. I lost her to cancer. :(

Besides my cat, I only have two hermit crabs, Charlie and Sally. Cleo keeps trying to get in their cage. Luckily she cannot.
I used to have 2 goldfish and 4 other crabs, but they died. Those kind of pets never seem to live too long.

I real sorry to hear that suzy, its real hard losing a family member.
I actually rescue animals. My boyfriend and I have 2 cats, 4 dogs (2 chihuahuas, a lab/border collie, and the newest member is a beagle/aussie sheph), a snake and we rescue ferrets so right now we have 13 and are at a stand still with that!

No not 13 pets lol, 13 ferrets, haha. Its not easy, at all! Its difficult, and sometimes I feel our hearts are too big, but we feel education for exotic pets is not available out there and all these people need to get rid of their ferrets so either they find it a home or set it free... its unfortunate. Ill tell ya one thing, I scoop a lot of poop! DAILY! lol It does help that I want to work with animals for a living, otherwise I may not be able to handle it at all.

I'm like you - I can't sit by and watch an animal being hurt without wanting to help. That's how we got Skit (and 3 of our 4 ferrets). We were working on a show, and there was this little kitten living in an abandoned building across the street. I started taking her food and trying to befriend her. Someone mentioned it to my husband (I inadvertently became a source of fascination for everyone else), and he simply replied "I've accept the fact that Jennipher cannot see an animal in distress without trying to help" However, he does try to make sure we don't end up KEEPING all those animals! :P

Other than my 2 fabulous felines....
I am also the mom of 3 lovely rats. 2 unaltered males and 1 spayed female who lives with them.
They are about 1 1/2 years old, but after they pass on, I will be taking a break from them (been owning rats for about 10 years or so). Mostly because the apartments we moved into doesn't really approve of them, so I definitely wouldn't want to push it by adding new ones in the future.
I'll wait until we move into a rat-friendly place before I start again.
All 3 of my rats are adopted.
Johnny came from Petco in June '08 after the last owner returned him. Reason: "Got bored of him".
Nigel came from the previous owner in Nov '08 who originally bought him for snake food, but he was too large for the snake. So, they kept him as a pet for a while then decided they really didn't need more pets and I somehow came across them.
Shadow came from a young girl in April '09 who bought her from the breeder, but she also owned large birds, which stressed Shadow out and caused her to get a little nippy with the girl. The girl became uncomfortable with the situation and we were on the same forum so I drove about an hour or so to go pick Shadow up and adopt her into my own home (and get her spayed so she could actually stay!)

You have rats hun? How do your cats get along with the rats? Do you have them in the same rooms?

Well, you asked for it;
I have a male black with white blaze sheep named George, who lives with 2 suffolk down ewes named Charlotte and Emily. I have a wiltshire horn cross suffolk down sheep named Buzzie who I raised from the bottle, she lives with her Aunties Sarah, Lucy and Mary. I have a Dachshund cross Cocker Spaniel dog named Tessie. A black with white crested Guinea Pig named Gus, a red-eye brown Guinea Pig named Burnie, a load of fish and Chilli! I think that's everyone... Hehe.

The rats are out in the living room, so yes, they share the room with the cats. In all truth, the cats don't bother them a bit, but I'm certain it's only because they're in a cage. If my rats were to get loose, Martha would probably jump on a couch and hope they go away, while Jethro may very well hunt & kill them. He is from the outdoors, so I don't doubt it.
But, there is no negative reaction towards the rats while they are in the cage, or they are out in my lap or on my shoulder.
Part of it may be because the rats were here before the cats were, so they were introduced to the rats versus the rats being introduced to a cat household. Who knows.

That's pretty cool hun. I thought for sure the cats would go after them even though they are in the cage. You know like try to knock it over.
My fiance wants to get a bird. He knows all 3 of our babies are huge bird stalkers so I know for sure a bird wouldn't stand a chance in our household. :scared1:

Well, they'd have a hard time knocking over my rats' cage, anyways. It's a large cage, and not very lightweight (Critter Nation - single unit). I'm pretty sure it would be impossible for them to do. :)
