I was so angry yesterday!
My neighbor has 2 cats, 1 my fiance saved last year during the winter & gave to the neighbor. The other 1 the neighbor got for a companion for his other cat.
Well the newest cat is a kitten about maybe 6 months old. When we were leaving for work early yesterday we saw her on our back steps that we share with the neighbor. My fiance tried to get her so we could put her in the front hall where it's warmer & away from the elements until the neighbor woke up. She ran away from my guy, he went to find her, but he couldn't find her. So he called the neighbor & left him a message letting him know she was outside, it's COLD & SNOWING too. I called the neighbor later in the day to see if he found her, he told me that he did find her, but she ran away from him so he put some food out for her figuring that she would be hungry, eat & he could bring her in the house that way.
Well guess what you all...when I went to throw put the garbage on the back steps for my guy to take out today, there she was all curled up on the neighbors back mat cold & STILL not in the house. I tried to get her, but she ran from me AGAIN. :( I got our bag of cat treats & tried shaking it calling to her figuring if she was hungry she would come running. She didn't so I told my guy & he got dressed to go find her, I told him where I saw the shadow of her tail, so he took a flashlight to kind of "blind" her so he could scoop her up since she runs away from people. He finally found her under an old A/C window unit & a couple BBQ grills, picked her up & brought her in the house.
Folks this little sweetie was SHAKING so badly because she was out since god knows when in the cold, snow ALL DAY, plus hungry. We took turns holding her to help get her body temp. back up. Then I set up the bedroom with food, water & a rug for her to sit/lay on & we put her in there & shut the door. She ate a whole can of wet cat food in under a 1/2 hour she was that hungry. We put her in the bedroom because she would have room to roam around, plus we could shut the door so that our 2 big babies wouldn't go after her or scare her.
LOL...they were trying to see who was in the bedroom though & hissed a couple times when they realized it was another cat. :D We petted our cats & made sure we told them it was OK, but she had to "visit" for a little bit. I called the neighbor & he wasn't home so we had to keep her at our place until he got back.
I sat with her on the bed & I tell you all, she's a little love, she was rubbing all over me, purring away & playing with my fingers & wanting her tummy rubbed. :) After she ate, we let her come out of the bedroom to find the litter box & sure enough she came out & went right to the litter box to use it. Of course EJ & Lucy weren't happy about seeing her though, Lucy I have to say was better than I thought as she didn't go after her, just hissed at the baby, but stayed on her chair. EJ hissed at her a little bit, but seemd a bit more scared...LOL...go figure he's scared of a kitten. :catlol: She wanted to explore but with my 2 big babies hissing at her, she was pretty scared, she moved real slowly & didn't move too much, so I picked her up & put her back in the bedroom.
This isn't the first time we've had to "rescue" the neighbors cats & I tell you we were both fit to be tied this time as it's winter now & I would be heart broken if I saw that she died from being outside in the cold. :( I called a friend to see if she could take her or if she knew anybody that wanted a cat. I was just about to call my uncle KNOWING he would take her as he's a HUGE animal lover. He takes in strays to feed them in the garage & even takes them in to get them fixed & checked out if they look sick. Anyway...the neighbor came home & I told him we had his cat & had a talk with him. I stressed with him the importance of keeping a watch on the cats, especially this time of year. He said he understood & would keep a better watch on them.
The thing that ticked me off though is we both called this guy to tell him about his cat & he didn't seem too concerned about it. I mean the couple times that I thought I lost EJ & Lucy I was in a panic only to find out they were OK & in the house, just hiding. There was no bowl of food out on the backporch which lead me to believe he never put out food for her to come like he told me he did. If I see either of his 2 cats outside again, I will gladly call my uncle & have him take his cats, he won't miss them anyway & I know they would be much better off with my uncle.
Aww, that poor kitty! I'm so glad you and your guy were there to save it and give it a nice place to hang out for a bit. :) Too bad your neighbor didn't care so much.. It deserves a better home for sure especially during the winter. If I saw a cat out like that and it was snowing, I'd probably take it in too. Just because I know I wouldn't want to be left out like that if it were me.
I would definitely take them to your uncle if that happens again. At least they'll have a place to stay where someone actually cares about them - you know?

Yep for sure, I know my uncle would take them in, especially both of the cats being so sweet. The neighbor doesn't realize that he has 2 really good cats, but his loss could be someone else's gain.

POOR BABY!! If it was me, I would not have given it back to him, because apparently he is not taking care of them.

Yeah, we both were struggling with wanting to give her back to him or not. We decided to only after I thought about having a talk with him. I did tell him that if he can't handle having 2 cats, let me know & I have someone who would take in either of them.
I've been checking since this happened & neither 1 has been outside so maybe I finally got to him, I sure hope so.
My guy wanted to keep her, but our place is too small for 3 cats. It's just enough for us & EJ & Lucy to have their spots when they want alone time. Add another 1 in the mix she would have no place of her own to chill.

Yeah i can Understand that. I hope he takes better care of them.

I sure hope so too Persian hun. My fiance & I have been looking out our back porch more often now since that happened. Just in case either of the 2 are outside.

This sort of story upsets me very much. How hard is it to show some compassion and care for our less fortunate inhabitants of our world? Well done on your part for showing some common decency and taking the time to help this little kitty.

BTW...welcome back, we have missed you. :)
Any updates on your kitties? How are the babies doing?

I have three outside cats andI try to get them into thr garage if it gets cold outside they don't always come in so they must have a place to sleep to keep warm as in the morning they are at the door waiting for their food.

Well we had the kitty over night. My guy called me when I was on the way home last night & told me the poor little darling was sitting by the neighbors back porch trying her hardest to keep warm. :(
He brought her in, warmed her up, fed her & we wound up keeping her over night because he didn't come home at all.
We were fit to be tied! I called my uncle & unfortunately he couldn't take her as he has 5 cats & 2 dogs in the house. My cousin has 3 cats already as well. We do have a couple lines out on other cat lovers so we will see what comes of the people that are "thinking" about it.
EJ & Lucy were not really happy about having her in the house, they were hissing at her & Lucy took a little swipe or 2 to her as well. She is young so when they hissed, she baked off & walked away from them, she gave them the space they were wanting.
We left to do some shopping early this AM & when we came home she was on the bed with my 2 & they seemed to be ok.
We did give her back to the neighbor & told him that if he doesn't want her that we have people that would love to take her. I stressed to him one more time the importance of keeping her in the house & even gave him some tips just in case she's a "runner" when he opens the door.
We were almost going to keep her, but realized that we really can't keep her, we have alot of love to give her, just not enough house room for 3 cats & us.
LOL...I've never had a kitten before & boy did I get a shock at all the things they like to get in to & do! She was in & on everything she could think to do, I had to "kitty proof" the tables a little bit so she wouldn't break any of my breakables. This AM I found that she dug up the dirt in our 2 plants, I had a nice little mess to clean up, thank goodness we didn't water the plants, it could have been worse. I'll stick with adopting/having older cats! :D

I'd take her if I was closer. I know what kittens are like they can be such a handfull...maybe that is the reason the neighbor is not to concerned w/what happens...? Maybe he can't handle havinga kitten. You haven't seen the other one out have you?

Believe it or not Persian hun I wanted to get a picture of her & put her up here asking if anybody would like to take her. There's no way that we could ship her, unless someone that lived close in our state or statewise would travel to pick her up.
The neighbor still does want her so we can't do much about it, but to keep an eye on her & him.
The other cat won't step outside, he was left out by his old owners during the winter last year, my fiance found him outside so doesn't go near the door, he knows better.
That poor thing. :( I'm glad you guys took her in for the night. Your neighbor should be more responsible with her. I know some cats like to run out, but if you keep a good eye on them - you can prevent it most of the time. Hopefully he's taking your advice and the little one doesn't get out anymore. Maybe it would be best if he gave her to someone who could care for her more.

She is going to get a good home today or we will call an animal shelter to come pick her up.
Once again she was outside on the back porch COLD this AM! My fiance woke up & he just felt something & decided to open the back door, well there she was AGAIN on the back porch cold. I'm so frickin tired of this neighbor you all just don't know!
She came right in the house, was running around & of course my EJ & Lucy are mad & going through the crap all over again that she is there & they don't want her there.
Also, in the little bit of time that it was taking for me to get ready for work she was jumping up on everything, in the plants a couple times & we watered the plants yesterday so she would have been digging MUD out of them all over the place.
We were going to put her in the front hall that is warm & not in the elements, BUT if another neighbor that left out their front door didn't see her, she could run out & really be in the elements outside as she could get hit by a car etc.. We knew we couldn't keep her in the house while we were gone for 8+ hours out of the work day today so my fiance took 1 of his precious vacation days off of work today so he could keep an eye on all of the cats. He was angry that he had to do this, but we weren't going to let her stay outside AGAIN, especially with it being COLD & also they are calling for rain turing into snow later on.
I've had it with this guy next door, he doesn't want to take proper care of her & WATCH her (like how frickin hard is watching her when he walks out his back door?) then he doesn't deserve her. I am in the process of asking people at work that I know are cat lovers or have cats. If nobody can or will take her then I will call the Animal Welfare League & have them pick her up.
She is a kitten & will get adopted out fairly quickly, much quicker than if she was an older cat. We just can't keep her, we aren't home enough to train to her to stay off the things we don't want her on & plus our 2 don't really want her around, not to mention we would have to declaw her as our 2 don't have their front claws & I would not want to see my 2 babies cut up if they ever fought. :(
So, that's it, he will not be getting her back, I told my guy to put the fear of god into that guy & tell him I'm looking for somebody to take her as he does not take care of her & so he doesn't deserve her.
Oh man! You're right.. That guy doesn't deserve her at all. I wouldn't bother telling him, either. Once you find a home for her I would just let her go. It's not like he'll notice anyway. He doesn't care that she's outside during the night anyway, you know? She deserves a home, not a back porch. :( The poor thing.

Yep & we do have her, we have had her since Monday & have been trying to find a home for her.
She's a good little kitten, but I really don't want 3 cats & a kitten to boot, she's been on & in everything.
She & EJ have been getting along though, they started playing together yesterday. It was really sweet to see, I love that baby boy of mine EJ, he's such a great cat! I wish I could clone him & have 100 fur babies just like him. The thing I kind of worry about is the closer they get, will he miss her when we do find her a new home?
My fiance doesn't want to put her in a shelter so we have been wracking our brains trying to find a home for her. I have a couple lines out so I'm hoping that 1 of them will pan out & the people will want to take her.

It sounds like your cats have adopted the kitten...you might as well too.....LOL j/k!! It's a good thing though that you nd your fiancee were there for it, poor baby!!
**Sapphire**
12-12-2008, 07:48 PM
Yeah Persian, she's really seemed to have taken to EJ. When I got home yesterday they were both in the bedroom window on the opposite ends. They were sitting up exactly the same way...LOL...I think EJ is teaching her.
They were running around like crazy this AM while I was getting ready for work. My little old man EJ is going to run himself ragged trying to keep up with her though. He reminds me of the way he used to be when I first found him...just running & having a good time.
Lucy still wants to be stubborn though, she growls/hisses & has run after "Lady" (the name for the kitten, my fiance picked that name), trying to hit her. I THINK on some level Lucy may like her because if she really wanted to, she could have "thrown down" with Lady by now. Lucy is a hard nut to crack, she's all cattitude! :D
**Sapphire**
12-15-2008, 02:48 PM
Well we have decided to keep Lady. All the people we have asked don't want her, are allergic or are full up with pets already.
So now Lady has a nice new, warm, loving home with all of us. Our family has grown to 5. 3 cats & us 2!
My fiance won a $100 gift card from American Express through his company Christmas party on Friday. We put that to good use over the weekend stocking up on litter, food, toys & also a collar with a bell on it so we can hear her coming. So, she is part of the family now.

Well congrats on the new kitty!!! You're just a sucker for kitties....lol!!! just mke sure she has something to keep her occupied with. The fact that you have two other cats will help. Has she had all her shots and everything?
**Sapphire**
12-15-2008, 08:16 PM
LOL...my fiance' is convinced it's his bad karma come back to get him. He used to be a little butthead when he was younger to cats, plus a pitbull he had used to use them as "toys". :(
No, I doubt she's had all her shots, so we will have to take her to the vet to get that done plus get her spayed. We will have to wait a little bit to get all that done though.
I just might not get her de-clawed, she doesn't use her claws much at all, even when she climbs all over me. I just might get that Pedi-Paws & keep her claws very short.
Do you all think that would be a good idea instead of getting her de-clawed? Do you all think that she could still hurt EJ or Lucy if they got in a tussel?
If I were you, I don't think I'd declaw her.. Just because you never know what could happen later on. She could get out one day and if she had to protect herself she could, you know?
**Sapphire**
12-16-2008, 02:00 PM
Yeah true Pink, I'm more worried about her possibly hurting EJ & Lucy. Hopefully by the time she gets older they will all be just fine together & they won't fight so that she could possibly hurt them.
persian_kitty
12-16-2008, 02:54 PM
I wouldn't de-claw her. I would just keep her claws short. As far as her hurting the other two...I think they can fend for themselves LOL :)
Yeah, I think they'll be okay. It just takes time for them to get used to each other. I'd keep the claws short like persian said.
**Sapphire**
12-16-2008, 05:31 PM
Yeah I'm thinking we won't de-claw her as well. It's a big expense & I think if we get her a nice cat scratcher & teach her to use that & not us or our furniture she will be ok.
She's learned so far to stay off of things she's not supposed to, although she still does a few things here & there at night. She knows she isn't going to get sprayed during the night when we are asleep...LOL! :D:nono:

Hi Sapphire, please don't get her de-clawed, I think cats need to have their claws just because they have them, you know what i mean. I think its wrong to do things like cut dogs tails off just because thats whats always been done to a particular breed and now people are coming around to the fact that dogs do need their tails. So I think cats need their claws, you know how they scratch under their chins or whever they need to and also have you ever noticed how dextrous they can be when they're playing with a cloth ball or a tennis ball, I've seen my cat pick up a tennis ball just hooked on one claw. I don't want to sound preachy or anything its just that they can't tell us their side of the story, how they feel about it and if I was in their paws I sure wouldn't want my claws pulled out....regards to you all ....tenpa
**Sapphire**
12-17-2008, 06:47 PM
Yeah I have seen Lady play with the stuffed toys we have for them all, she does pick them up with her claws & toss them around.
I think when I get that Pedi-Paws I will feel much better because then I can keep her claws very short. That will help our furniture & EJ & Lucy if they happen to ever get in a fight or even just playing.

De clawing is horrible, its illegal in 26 countries outside the usa/canada and it has no benefits to the cat.
Use Soft paws if need be.
Good job! People like this... well I don't have words for um.
