View Full Version : Flea medications
Do you use a medicine for fleas and if so which one? My cat is always indoors, but because the dog goes out on walks a lot the doctor has me using Frontline on the cat. I was wondering if i treat the dog so that he does not get them, why the cat needs the medicine too. Any ideas?

Never asked but I imagine because anyone can bring a hitch hiker in. I have went to our mailbox before and when i got back in seen a flea on my leg.
You treat both animals for preventative causes. You are trying to avoid fleas on your dog but if one happens to grab hold anyway and come in with the dog than the cat will be protected against them as well.

I was at one time told that if your cat doesn't have fleas, that they don't need flea medicine. I would make sure to treat your dog because that's what's spreading it. I think you should ask your vet if this is preventative, and if it can be harmful.

we treat both the dog and the cats because even though the cats are indoors the dog goes out, and we get a lot of fleas out in the sand in the summer time, and we often find them on our shoes and socks after being outside, so we also bring them inside.
