Eye tearing

Well I think the kitten may have done something to EJ's right eye.

It's been tearing alot this AM. I noticed his fur wet by his eye when I woke up this AM. I washed my hands & took a little bit of a kleenex to wipe off the wetness & check his eye. I don't see any redness, his eye itself isn't cloudy & there isn't any kind of discharge other than his eye tearing.

I looked in this great cat book I have & it does say that eye injuries can occur during play so most likely that's what happened since the kitten has her claws still.

I'm going to keep a watch on EJ's eye & if I see any kind of discharge other than his eye tearing I'm taking him to the vet.

Well I have an update for you all...

EJ's eye is much better, we went to PetSmart & got some saline eye drops along with Kitty EyeWipes for EJ's eye. My guy gives EJ the eye drops 2 times a day & then cleans around his eye with the kitty wipes. Both of the things we got are vet recommended, so they must be good products.

His eye is tearing, but only a little bit now. Before his whole eye would be wet & the water would be leaking down his face. So he's doing a whole lot better, he may have had something deep down in his eye that he couldn't get out or a blocked tear duct. So using the saline drops has cleared it up, thank goodness.

sorry I missed this earlier....I'm glad EJ is better. The only thing I can say either they were playing rough with each other or when they were playing he might have got dust or something in his eye. Brownie for awhile had a teary eye but it was because of the dust in the house when we were laying our wood flooring that caused it. Sometimes she still comes up witha slightly teary eye when I know she's been playing in my closets and such. Just keep an eye on Lady and EJ both when they are playing rough.

We noticed after the eye stopped tearing & everything wasn't so wet anymore that there was a little redness right in the corner of his eye & a little knick so I'm thinking it was from their rough play.

In a way I'm happy that Lady ran her first cycle because for a week she didn't mess with EJ much at all so it gave him time for his eye to heal.

I'm going to do a big old cleaning of the house this week while I'm off of work, so hopefully that will help with any dust & stuff on the floors as well.

I will watch them more when they play though Persian, just to be sure of how they play & where her paws/claws go, thanks hun. :)

Aw! I'm glad EJ is okay. I'm sure things like that happen all the time especially when you have a kitten around. :p

So we need an update...how's he doing?

He's doing better persian. His eye started tearing again when Lady went in to heat AGAIN for a couple days. I wonder if it has anything to do with her heat cycles.

There's still no discharge just his eye tearing, we are back to doing the saline drops 2 times a day, but we stopped using the eye wipes thinking he may be a little allergic to them & that could be why he tears & then gets better. If that doesn't work, then I'm calling the vet on Monday & asking his opinion.

Wanted to update you all that EJ's eye is healed, no more excessive tearing like it was doing before.

Now it's back to the normal little bit of tearing & staining that I clean off his eyes each day. I'm really happy it finally healed totally, I wanted to avoid taking him to the vet because of the huge bill we are going to have with Lady.

It probably took a little longer than it would have if we took him to the vet, but the eye drops & the wipes we were using did help a whole lot.

I am so glad to hear that!! Has he Lady still been rough housing or has she settled down?

They still play & Lady does play with EJ hard. I think we have finally got her to realize that we are the boss so when she gets to be too rough with EJ my guy or I will yell at them both to stop or even point & they break up.

EJ does sometimes go back for more, but until Lady is de-clawed I still worry about them playing so much.
